Women don't like to share their online fashion finds with friends, according to a survey © RexWhat do you do when you come across a designer dress online at a bargain price? Do you share it with your friends - or keep it a secret?
Because a study by online fashion retailer Lovarni has found that almost a third of British women don’t tell their friends about a fashion bargain they’ve found online – in case their friend ends up buying it as well.
Of those sharing-shy women, more than half (57 per cent) refuse to share the bargain on social networking sites, and 44 per cent won’t share a ‘hot’ web link – even when their friends ask.
Almost two thirds of women (63 per cent) worry that if they tell their friends, they’ll end up buying the same – but more than a quarter (27 per cent) just like the ‘buzz’ of knowing about a bargain that others don’t.
A small percentage (10 per cent) fear that telling their friends about a particular bargain may increase its popularity and the price of it will go up.
‘There’s clearly a thrill in knowing where to find and buy the best bargains, especially when times are hard like now,’ said Charlotte Webb, founder of Lovarni.com.
'But despite the drive among retailers to encourage shoppers to share bargain buys with friends across social networks, a significant percentage of women resist because of the perceived advantages of keeping their shopping destinations secret’
And women are even less likely to share bargains from a smaller, lesser known site.
They prefer to share bargains from bigger online retailers like ASOS and New Look as their friends probably shop on these sites anyway.
‘Larger websites are probably already on most women’s ‘favourites’ list, so there’s no point in trying to hide them from others,’ said Charlotte.
More than half of the women surveyed said they shopped online - and us Brits spent £68.2 billion shopping online in 2011 - twice as much as the US, Germany and France.
We better get on the hunt for some online bargains.
