A healthy scalp for beautiful hair

As long as you haven’t treated the root of the problem - in other words at the scalp level - your hair problems will continue! This is true for all hair-related issues, from greasy to dry hair complaints through to hair loss.

Caring for your scalp type

  • Nourish dry scalps: Like a tree that lacks the water to nourish its roots, trunk and branches, a dry scalp is likely to cause dry and brittle hair. That’s why it’s so important to nourish and moisturise your scalp first to rebuild its hydrolipidic film. You can apply a mask for dry scalps weekly and then use serums and suitable hair care products rich in phospholipids (containing Shea butter, avocado, copra oil, etc.) applied every day to protect the scalp and moisturise it throughout the day. Don’t forget daily massage.

  • Air greasy scalps: This type of scalp needs oxygen. Forget what you’ve been told and don’t hesitate to wash your hair everyday, with a gentle shampoo of course. Dermatologists in fact warn people suffering from alopecia, who also have greasy hair, that sebum promotes hair loss and progressively thins re-growth. Massage your scalp once a week, like you would skin, with a menthol-based exfoliator containing micro pearls. Or apply an absorbent clay mask and use citrus fruit or nettle shampoos to limit seborrhoea. Massage 2 to 3 times a week.

  • Soothe irritated scalps: As with greasy scalps, you first and foremost need to cleanse and purify the scalp to limit the spread of bacteria causing dry scales. Then treat irritation and itching by applying a kerato-reducing and soothing product every day until the dry scales disappear.  Ideally, rinse out shampoo with cool water which calms the skin and also soothes pain; hot water has a tendency to make pain and skin irritation worse.

Massage for all scalp and hair types

In all cases (hyper seborrhoea, dry scales, hair loss), gentle scalp massages – without rubbing – are good for reactivating blood circulation, revascularising the scalp and re-boosting hair growth. Massage is also a great remedy for headaches.

Either in bed, in front of the computer or television, give yourself a 5-minute scalp massage using the tips of your fingers (definitely not your nails), taking care to lift the hair roots, actually making the scalp move thereby softening the skin... with an anti-stress effect guaranteed too!
